MTG Magic Academy: Learn to Play

About this experience

Learn how to play Magic the Gathering at Halcyon!

First, our Event Coordinator will help you set up a Wizards Account and use it to register you for the event; this is necessary to receive your Welcome Deck. We'll also show you the Magic Companion app and explain how you can sign up for events and track life totals right in the app.

Then, we'll direct you to the Magic Academy: Learn to Play introductory video - you're able to watch this on your own device! After you finish the video, we'll give you a Welcome Deck, Learn-to-Play brochure, pocket reference card, and a sticker sheet for fun (all of these while supplies last). 

Finally, we'll pair you up with another player for your first casual match. Each Welcome Deck comes with two 30-card half decks, each of a different color - for the first match you'll only use one mono-colored half deck, so choose one color to try first. Once you have a game or two under your belt, try shuffling in the other half deck to experience multi-color Magic. We can help you find additional opponents for more casual matches.
